Day 100: Golf Lesson

 The driving range

Mike remembered that when I was in Yosemite, I had a sudden impulse to go and play golf, so he asked our host, David, if he would mind taking us to have a go.  David very wisely took us to the driving range rather than the golf course itself.  A driving range is where you practice attempting to hit the ball properly.  To my total astonishment, I was not as completely incompetent as I would have imagined.  That is to say, I hit the ball at least half the times I swung at it and it went a respectable distance in the intended direction at least half the times I hit it!  David gave us an introduction to golf club types, grips and swings and I actually really enjoyed myself. I liked the whole routine of getting focused, then letting go at the ball.  Heh, heh, maybe I have an expensive new hobby!!  Actually, the US is one of the places where golf might be almost affordable. David told us he paid $8 to play 9 holes on Sunday, though usually it's $16.  Not bad...

Now I'm reading the well-named Complete Idiot's Guide to Golf (see list in the side bar), just so I know what I'm supposed to be doing in case I ever meet anyone who wants to take me to play golf.  I'm not sure that Mike is going to be that person.
